I question whether this meets building code and, even more important, is safe. One of the handrails I'm about to replace looks identical to this one. The main reason I'm replacing it is that it does not meet the maximum outside diameter requirement which is between 1.25 inches and 2 inches. A handrail must be "grip-able" so that a user can grasp it to prevent failing. I know from experience that the type of handrail shown in this video cannot be adequately grasped to prevent fails - particularly for an elderly adult female with normally smaller hands. My understanding of the code is that the top of a handrail may be between 34 and 38 inches above a stair tread instead of the 36 to 38 inches that was mentioned in this video but I shoot for 36 inches. Maybe it does but it doesn't look to me like this handrail meets the 1.5 inch clearance requirement but at least the requirement is mentioned in the video notes. Regardless, do your own research on building codes before taking on this project or hiring someone to install handrails. From a practical standpoint, an easy way to avoid needlessly marking on walls, using thumb tacks, etc. is to apply painters tape to walls and the do the marking on the tape. Painters tape can usually be removed without damaging paint. I suggest that the owner of this video confirm whether this handrail really does meet code requirements and remove this video if it doesn't.

Bar far this was one of the best and simplified videos on installation of Double French Doors I've watched. I know nothing about that yet was able to follow you. I watched it several times and will still watch it when I am ready to start my project, but needed to say I learned a lot. Thanks!

Help!. I like the video and explanations, but I'll be installing stained and finished boards and can't just throw in a bunch of nails wherever. What nails and nailing tool should I use on true 1" (5/4) boards that have been carefully stained and finished. Any suggestions appreciated. Thx

Safety third. No eye or ear protection while using table saw or router…

This will work with hollow cardboard doors but fail with anything heavy - screws are needed to hold the hinge side in place, nails will pull out with time.

Buy a god damn 15 gauge nailer and quit using casing to hang your doors. Hang your doors and then case them.

I do not have a nailer. I saw a different video suggesting using headless screws. Any suggestion for how to adapt this for using screws instead of nails? seems like I shouldn't need as many... I'm like... not an expert lol. Thanks in advance.

Guys use ca glue. Sets up in 2 seconds. No need to nail. Don't need to glue returns to the wall. Brackets will hold in place.

Cut ends of railing at 45° . Cut pieces are your returns.

You are a painter's nightmare, way too many nails

Casing on the bottom was a smart touch. Gotta say though, I would NOT rely in brad nails alone. Once the door was in place, square and plumb, driving four (4) 3” screws through the door stop - at top and bottom hinges - is advisable. I’ve done that on several door installations and consider it a MUST with solid wood & glass double doors.

Nicely done, Hunter! One additional tip... I make sure my stock handrail ends are trimmed to 90 degrees and then mark and make both of my 1 1/2" clearance 45-degree miter cuts on each end, and just swap them to complete the mitered joints - (there is less maneuvering of the stock on the saw and essentially zero waste).

I wanna try this method next time on an interior install. Still were able to address all the issues I thought were gonna be a problem. And plumbing off the hinges makes sense because factory hinges may be set slightly off and that’s what the door hangs from. I’ve never tried this method before, but it looks fun and fast so I’m definitely going to give it a go at some point.

Dr Horton did not show that much love and affection when they built my home. My window sills are basic ASF, along with several other things in the house. Nothing is symmetrical in my home. Love your work.

My house had all wood n trim no drywall above sills seen guy prefab a box with trim to slide in all painted so I thought what a perfect place for a window sill safe the inside frame under sill was cut turned down re nailed hinged trap door sill and riffles or valuables are easy access and hidden from crooks only those reading will know let's keep it that way crooks look every where keep curtains open thell look out but not within lol
